One of New Mexico’s smallest counties is named after a historic territorial leader, Curry. The capital of Curry is Clovis. The very place where a young Buddy Holly recorded Peggy Sue is over on 7th Street, the Norman Petty Studios. More recently, a group of folks have been peppering the City Commission with petitions for
referendum challenging their spending decisions. The most recent petition garnered more than the 456 required signatures and has brought about an
election on August 2, 2011.
The Commission voted 6 to 1 established a plan for affordable housing and the ballot question is “Shall Ordinance No. 1957-2011, an Ordinance Establishing an Affordable Housing Program pursuant to the Affordable Housing Act, defining terms, establishing application requirements and review criteria; and establishing procedures to administer an Affordable Housing Plan, be approved in the City of Clovis?”
Early voting will be from July 13 to July 29 during normal business hours at City Hall so drop on by to get your vote in. If you need an absentee ballot they can be
obtained from June 28 to July 29 and received by city hall right up to election day on August 2. If you prefer to vote on election day itself the polls will be open on August 2, 2011 from 7am to 7pm.
