Feb. 16 – Alabama State House District 40

After the sudden death of Democratic State Representative Lea Fite in October, voters will go to the polls tomorrow to elect their new representative. The district is in Calhoun County and its biggest city is Anniston. Currently Democrats preside over the chamber with a 60-44 majority with this one vacancy.

Hoping to hold the seat for Democrats is Ricky Whaley. A high school teacher in Jacksonville, his campaign website can be found here. His Republican opponent is K.L. Brown. The owner of prominent funeral homes in the county, he too lives in Jacksonville. His website can be found here. There is also an independent in the race. Carol Hagan has focused on changing the tax system and is tied to the Libertarian party of Alabama. To learn more about her campaign, click here.
