**UPDATE** Thank you to reader RJ for the correction – Note that all residents of Plano can vote in this special election***

In one of the largest suburban cities in America, voters will go to the polls to choose a new city council member in District 3 after Mabrie Jackson resigned to run for a State House seat.

Plano, Texas is the ninth largest city in the state, with a population over 265,000 people.  Home to many corporate headquarters including Frito-Lay, JCPenny and Ericsson, it is usually ranked near the top of the wealthiest cities in America.

All Plano residents get to vote in this election – though candidates must live in District 3 – and will have  to choose from 3 candidates in the January election.

All three are political novices. Andre Davidson was named Plano Citizen of the Year in 2005 for her extensive work with local volunteer agencies and she is looking to take that experience to the City Council. Cathy Fang is a CPA and has built a successful accounting business in the city after moving there in 1983. Doug Shockey is a real estate investor and has lived in the city for over three decades.

  1. All registered voters in Plano can vote in the special election, not just those in district 3. The canidates must live in district 3, but Plano elects city wide for all counical spots.

    • Thanks for the correction – that is very important to note. I have updated the posting

    • Hi RJ,
Are the council positions partisan or non-partisan?

  2. Thank you for letting the Citizens of Plano know that it is a city wide election.
