Results in Rhode Island’s 62nd House District
In the last on-the-radar election of 2009, Democrats have held a house seat in Rhode Island as Mary Duffy Messier was elected tonight by a sizable margin. The district spans most of Pawtucket and a portion of East Providence and was expected to stay in Democratic hands.
These are the preliminary results without absentee ballots having been allotted. However, there are not enough outstanding votes to place the winner in doubt. Congratulations of Rep-Elect Messier and her staff. Democrats now have a 69-6 advantage in the House, one of the most lopsided legislatures in the country.
Democrat Mary Duffy Messier – 296 votes (61%)
Republican Thomas Clupny – 175 votes (36%)
