December 5 – Results in Virginia’s State Senate District 8

Dec. 5 – Results in Virginia’s 8th State Senate District Primary

To update a day late, Republicans went to the polls to pick the presumptive successor to Kenneth Stolle who will become Virginia Beach Sheriff in a few weeks. Democrats have not fielded a challenger, so this primary was decisive in this heavily Republican part of the state.

Businessman Jeff McWaters handily won the election over Councilwoman Rosemary Wilson. McWaters received 4,775 votes while Wilson received 2,815. The turnout was an atrocious 6.5% of registered voters. McWaters will be formally elected to the seat on January 12 in a special general election.
